Here are some images from last weekend. I covered Gloucester vs. Sale rugby on Saturday and then Somerset vs. Gloucestershire cricket on Sunday. The weather was great both days and the light late in the afternoon for the cricket was gorgeous. It was my first cricket match of the year and so was pretty nervous but I find with cricket it just goes on so long that you can’t help but make some good pictures. It’s quite tricky finding good backgrounds when the stands are empty and there are ugly advert boards so spent most of the game shooting from the stands. I shot the end of the game from the ground though and reckon the pictures are just about clean enough. Kieswetter reached his century in the last over and I got a nice pic of him in the air celebrating but he kept his head down so it looked pretty crappy. Thankfully though he hit the winning six straight towards me so can’t complain!

Just landed in Singapore and was editing through these pics on the plane. The varsity was a great game to watch and a great win for Bristol. No worthwhile images from the actual game but the celebrations afterwards were great.

Pretty late with this but Bristol lost to Durham 20-30 in the BUCS Semi Final last week. It was one of the best games of rugby I’ve ever watched and unfortunately Durham scored in the last minute to tie the game 20-20 at the final whistle. Five mins into extra time and Durham were 30-20 up, a lead they defended right to the end. So here’s some pictures, quite glad it went to extra time actually as the light got better and better.

Just thought I’d do a quick post with some rugby pics from last week. The first 3 are from the Bristol game against UWE and the second lot are from a Clifton 2nd XV game. I quite like the b+w portraits from the Bristol game and think is something I might focus on more in the future. The light was great for the Clifton game so I underexposed everything by about 2 stops to catch just the highlights. Loving the backgrounds as well, so much cleaner than anything else I’ve shot recently.

For some reason or other I came across this first photo (definitely going in the portfolio) the other day so thought I’d show you all. In the middle of the game this dog runs on, chased by another and is promptly bent over and degraded on the middle of the XV. It was a classic sight and something I’m sure no one who saw it will forget for a while. By far the most entertaining thing I’ve seen happen on a rugby pitch! I was only 17 when I took these but I still like them and I’m pleased I got the scoreboard in the last one (luck I’m sure) as it tells the whole story nicely.
